About the role


Key details:

  • Working week: Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm, 37 hours per week, Term time only
  • Wage: £9.30 per hour 
  • Location: South Street, Enfield, Greater London, EN3 4PX

Overview of the role:

As part of supporting pupils with Additional Educational Needs (AEN), the role involves contributing to the overall provision and resources available for these pupils in the primary part of the school. A key responsibility is to assist in raising the achievement levels of AEN students, ensuring they meet or exceed expected progress. Additionally, the role focuses on promoting the well-being of AEN students within the Academy environment. An essential duty is to promote and safeguard the welfare of all children that you teach or interact with, maintaining a safe and supportive atmosphere for their development. This work also extends to contributing to the daily operations of the Academy when necessary.


Key responsibilities: 

  • Promote a positive culture within the Academy, ensuring diversity is recognized and respected.
  • Raise student achievement by developing outstanding practices in collaboration with class teachers.
  • Contribute to the Academy’s vision, values, and aims while adhering to professional standards.
  • Assist with implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs), Education, Health Care Plans, and Pastoral Support Programmes (PSPs).
  • Support teachers in planning, delivering, and evaluating differentiated lessons.
  • Develop and adapt resources for identified students.
  • Work with small groups or individual students on literacy and numeracy support.
  • Listen to students read and observe their performance, reporting back to teachers.
  • Maintain student records and assist with reviewing IEPs and PSPs.
  • Support students during Academy and public exams.
  • Clear away materials after lessons.
  • Act as the Key Person for an assigned group, keeping records to inform planning and sharing progress with parents and staff.
  • Monitor and report student progress to parents under the class teacher’s direction.
  • Assist in the physical management of students and encourage their independence and confidence.
  • Help with lunchtime clubs, attend to students in distress or accidents, and escort them on educational visits.
  • Foster positive relationships with parents and carers.
  • Attend training sessions, team meetings, and participate in the Performance Management process.
  • Complete routine administrative tasks as required


Apprenticeship Summary:

  • You will work towards your Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification across a total duration of 16 months!

  • All online/remote learning, no classroom or college day release
  • An allocated tutor will support you throughout the apprenticeship!

  • GCSE or equivalent English (Grade 4) essential

During this teaching assistant apprenticeship you will promote self-belief, social inclusion and high self-esteem which will play an integral part to pupils’ wellbeing. You will become an essential part in the learning environment for the classroom teacher and pupils. Working to ensure pupils thrive in a positive, nurturing and safe environment. It is an active role supporting the learner to access the curriculum and expand their knowledge. TAs play a crucial role in supporting teachers and pupils. Your work can have a significant impact on the children's learning experiences, helping them to succeed academically and personally.


  • Milestone 1. Keeping children safe in Education – (KCSIE Policy, child protection, safeguarding awareness, serious case reviews, health, safety and wellbeing legislation)
  • Milestone 2. Professional Standards and Personal Accountability – (Relationships and Role Modelling, CPD and Personal development)
  • Milestone 3. Child Development and Behaviours – (Child Development Practitioners, stages of development, Behaviour Management).
  • Milestone 4. Curriculum and Technology – (School ICT Systems, using technology, National Curriculum key Stages)
  • Milestone 5. Learning and Assessment Strategies – (Assessment procedures, feedback techniques, SEND Strategies and partnership working)
  • Milestone 6. Prep for End Point Assessment
