Senior Pharmacy Technician Oncology and Aseptic Services

Full Time 37.5 hrs per week
Shift pattern – Monday to Friday - 8am to 5:30pm

The Pharmacy Oncology Department are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Senior Pharmacy Technician to help lead in the delivery of excellent hospital pharmacy aseptic services.
As the successful candidate, you will join our friendly team working within the Satellite pharmacy and Aseptic Unit situated on level 2 at the Cromwell Hospital, preparing chemotherapy and related treatments for patients. We will provide a comprehensive in-house training programme during which you will learn all about our clean room environment and the many different procedures that we must maintain for the high standards of cleanliness and efficiency needed in our busy Aseptic Unit working under section 10 of the Medicines act 1968.
- Participate in the preparation and reconstitution of cytotoxic drugs for Inpatients and Outpatients in accordance with approved procedures.
- Participate in the maintenance of all environmental monitoring and quality assurance systems to ensure the continued functioning of the unit. Liaise with external agencies responsible for monitoring quality systems.
- Schedule service contracts for equipment used in the Aseptic Unit that undergo regular preventative maintenance to ensure that all equipment is fit and maintained for the purpose intended.
- Ensuring that all processes are RPS and GPhC compliant and be actively involved with self-inspections where appropriate.
- Ensure that all standard operating procedures are appropriate, adhered to and to participate in the delivery of safe and current practice.
- Participate in service review processes to ensure current practices are appropriate. To work with the Oncology Pharmacy Team to ensure a first-class service for patients and consultants
- Participate in clinical and service audits to maintain department standards.
- Ensure delivery and maintenance of all Health and Safety and COSHH requirements relating to cytotoxic substances.
- To dispense take home medications for Chemotherapy patients to support an efficient discharge process. To liaise with the Patient Accounts department to ensure that take home medications allied to chemotherapy treatment are charged correctly.
- Accurate charge entry to support delivery of the department and hospital business goals.
- To participate in the delivery of a ward top up service to Wards, Clinical Departments & Theatres. To participate in the stock distribution function and dispensing function of the technician team when required, to support the technical service and ensure that departmental service levels are maintained.
Key Skills / Qualifications needed for this role:
- B/Tec Pharmaceutical Sciences or NVQ Level 3 Pharmacy services
- Professional registration with GPhC.
- Experienced in aseptic oncology reconstitution.
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
- Good aseptic manipulation skill
- Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice
- Previous hospital/manufacturing experience
- Working knowledge of isolators.
- Understanding of equipment used within a clean room environment.
- Familiar with cytotoxic products.
- Good working knowledge of Ascribe and Aria System.
- Team management experience
