5 months contract with a Local Authority
Job Purpose
- To take responsibility for routine and cyclical highway maintenance programmes centred around one of three key themes: surfacing, pavements and lining; drainage and winter maintenance; or green infrastructure. By fulfilling this role, the Cyclical Highway Maintenance Lead is accountable for ensuring the highway network is managed and maintained in a safe manner and ensuring that the lifespan of highway assets is maximised.
Key Duties/Accountabilities
- Manage a team of officers responsible for planning varied programmes of works across approximately 3,000km of highway.
- Support, train, and advise the team and act as a point of escalation for complex cases.
- Ensure delivery of varied programmes of works in line with Council priorities and policy, with a flexible approach to revise programmes as needed.
- Build and maintain good relationships with maintenance contractors and the wider supply chain.
- Provide community engagement and collaborate with the Area Maintenance Manager to keep customers and stakeholders informed of relevant highway works.
- Instill a culture of accountability, professionalism, and excellence within the team.
Essential Experience Required
- Experience working in highway or construction sectors.
- Prior experience working with a diverse group of stakeholders or customers, particularly with groups who have competing priorities and agendas.
Essential Qualification Required
- Degree in a relevant discipline, Civil Engineering, Construction, or Highway Engineering, or equivalent experience.

- Working Hours: 37 hours per week
